Nursing Home Negligence

Nursing abuse and neglect happen more often than we realize. Nursing homes are frequently understaffed by minimum wage workers who leave our elderly and sick unattended and uncared for. Nursing home residents need full-time care and supervision. Frequent falls, unexplained injuries, malnoursihment, dehydration, bedsores, theft of personal belongings, verbal abuse and intimidation are all too common occurrences. Medical Malpractice

While there are many excellent doctors serving the public, some cut corners or take unnecessary chances with dangerous procedures. Some prescribe the wrong medication. Some fail to recognize an illness that a qualified doctor should diagnose. Likewise, some hospitals fail to administer the correct procedures, or fail to take adequate infection measures. The result is that some patients are made worse, or even die, due to the negligence of their healthcare providers. Doctors don't have to be perfect, but they are required by law to meet the minimum standard of care. When they do not meet this standard, they can be held liable for the injuries they cause.

Medical malpractice cases are very difficult to prove. The process typically involves doctors judging the conduct of other doctors, which is not always fair to the injured patient. But P&B welcomes difficult cases. We will consult as necessary with other physicians and medical experts to determine the best way to prove your case. Social Security Disability

If you have been wrongfully denied your first-level request for Social Security disability benefits, you have the right to an appeal. Contact us before the deadline on your denial letter so we can file the necessary forms to secure a hearing before an Administrative Law judge. We will prepare with you for this hearing and will be at your side throughout the proceeding. We will gather necessary medical records, call appropriate witnesses and use all of our experience to be sure that the Judge correctly understands your disabilities and why they make you eligible for benefits.

Civil Rights

Most New Orleans citizens are aware of some form of police abuse. They may have witnessed verbal or physical abuse or have been subjected to brutality or abuse. Having personally witnessed this type of abusive police behavior, Mr. Bizal has for over 20 years accepted cases of police brutality and false arrest and has successfully litigated many of those cases. There is never a guarantee of success in any civil matter. Moreover, claims of this type are even harder to win.

The attorneys at Pierce & Bizal know how clients feel when they have been abused. They know that it is important to talk to witnesses as soon as possible following any incident involving police officers. It is important to lock these witnesses in with their statements. Over time memories fade and stories change. Criminal Defense

Pierce & Bizal accepts most types of criminal defense work. While P&B handles criminal defense work primarily in Louisiana, Mr. Bizal has litigated criminal cases in California, New York and Alabama. If a case involves a federal crime, P&B can represent its client in any jurisdiction in the country. P&B is available to assist others who are being prosecuted for a felony in either state or federal court. The firm also handles minor offenses including DWI/DUI cases.
